I orginialy posted these ideas as part of one of my entries into the EVE module design competition, and realised that most of it was off topic from just a mod design, so ive posted it here too,
'This type of module would be a VERY 'Rare' Item, and after being added to the game, following an update or patch, would only be actually on the market and available 'in-game', when the BPO, and respective skill had been 'DISCOVERED', through a highly intensive process of research and tailored 'profession's', or 'career's'. Also the components to construct these rare Items would also need to be discovered and researched in an integral process, linked to further factors such as attributes and skill levels etc. These researching assignments would be known as 'Career Research Projects', and would be very hard to complete and would depend on a handful of different objectives each a veritable research project in itself. Thus this would make these Items 'Rare' Indeed, and would be an alternative way of introducing and 'discovering' new content, as an alternative to the more simple Tech2 Lottery, in effect this would be Tech3. The Skillbooks needed for each Item would be 'Copiable' by the owner of the 'Original' and he only. When a new Item has finally been completed and fully researched it is 'Discovered' and 'Invented', the completion moment may be called something like, a 'Eureka!' moment or something similar, heh! All new Items would be designed before the new update, then introduced in the patch, no item info would be disclosed, except an indicator of the processes for there discovery and the amount of new items 'out-there', say 250 T3 items to start with, awaiting discovery through research and invention, etc. etc. The more items a person/corp./alliance etc. researches to 'discovery', would effect and change (raise), different attributes like standings (depending on what the item does and how it effects the other players, factions etc. in the game), rights to its production could be apportioned and sold out like shares maybe, and thus an items overall effects wouldn't solely reflect on a single individual or even corp. but more averagely an entire Alliance or/and Faction, Tech3 to Tech2 would thus be like the 'Model T Ford' to the 'Jaguar XJ220', fully distinguishing these items from the other Tech level items indeed.'
Dont know if this is entierly in-topic with your thread here, but there it is.
